| R.I.P. Steve McHale |
[Jan. 18th, 2007|07:59 pm] |
Yesterday, January 17th, 2007, my dad, Steve McHale, passed away in the morning. He was the best dad a son could ever have. He was taken from this lifetime way too soon. The world has lost a truely wonderful person. He loved his family and friends so very, very much. He will be missed by family, friends, and mostly by me. I love you and I miss you Dad. This isn't goodbye. Just see you later. Say hi to Grandma and Princess for us. And keep an eye out for us. We love you Dad.

Steve McHale ~ July 9th, 1956 - January 17th, 2007 ~
Thank you to everyone who has shown their love and deepest concerns for us. It is very helpful in these times. I love you all very much. |

| | contemplative | ] | I've always waited around for friends to come to me with things to do. I have now noticed that doing things that way isn't what it's cracked up to be. Or in other words, that way isn't working out. So I've decided that I will now be the one that starts up the conversation and I'm gonna start putting myself out there and talking and start meeting new people. I always had that "Sleeping Beauty" mentality. I always thought that the one I would fall in love with and marry would come to me. I've found out that it doesn't nessicarily happen often, if ever. So I've decided to stop moping around and get off my ass and do something about it. I'm tired of not having friends close by to do something with. I mean, I have friends, and I love you all to death, but a good majority of them either live 30 minutes to 2 hours away or live in another state or across the country. It really sucks when I talk to my friends online or on the phone and I think "Wow. This is person is really cool. I wish they lived here or I lived there so we could hang out and do stuff together." And it sucks because I work 30-40 minutes away from my house, so I know people there, but not back home. Same with the shows I go to. I've met some really cool people and some who are now best friends, but it sucks that I have to drive 30 minutes to an hour and a half to see those best friends. So starting now, I'm taking on a new lead. I'm gonna start talking more and doing more things locally. Cause I'm sick of being stuck at home and not doing anything. I'm gonna start doing things more differently now. I've been stuck here for over 4 months due to family things. That kind of put our whole lives on hold. And now that someone pushed the unpause button, I'm trying to get everything back in motion and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Right now, I feel like I'm at a crossroads with 3 or 4 different paths in front of me and I can not decide which path to take. But I guess that that's part of life and we just need to take time to figure it all out. We'll see what happens. I'll let you know how it works out. And if you read that whole thing, you deserve a freaking medal. haha. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that out and get it off my chest. We shall see what the future will bring. I hope you all are doing well and taking care of yourselves and each other. I shall talk to you all later. Have a great night/day/afternoon wherever you may be in the world. Take care.

| | The Shins - Oh, Inverted World | ] | Hello Hello. How is everyone LJ land? So I can't remember anything rememberable from the last 2 weeks or so. But the last couple of days were good. Oh wait. I remember something. Me and Kyla saw the Flaming Lips in Del Mar the other week for free. It was pretty awesome. It was really packed with people too. I'd probably say about 4000. Maybe. There was a fountain in the middle of the crowd. And everyone just started getting in it. So me and Kyla did the same. The water was nice. People started climbing the middle piece of the fountain. Security started getting pissed and got everyone out. And we definetly saw some a tittie or two there. Funny. We watched them from upstairs. It was still pretty good. Oh yeah. Pedro from Napoleon Dynanite introduced them as well. It was pretty cool. Besides the crazy crowd, good times. - So the other day, I got to hang out with my good friend, Bobby Bo. He use to be June's tour manager and now he's doing the Victory Street Team. I hadn't seen him since November. We met up in Oceanside and got some delicious In-N-Out. He gave me some good advice on being a tour manager. He's such a good dude. I let him crash the night at my house. It was really great seeing him again. - Saturday wasn't too bad of a day. I met up with Kyla after work in Oceanside. We hung out my house for a little bit. We had a music swap session. It was pretty good. Afterwards, we drove down to San Diego and got tickets for the Rx Bandits show. Then we went and got Chipotle before the show. I forgot how awesome it was. After we ate, we went to Soma for the show. Met up with Kim and Julie. I was surprised when I saw my good friend Evan from Salt Lake City. I hadn't seen him for almost a year. It was really great seeing him. The Rx Bandits played a pretty solid set. People started smoking and I wasn't too fond of it. I mainly tried to focus on the performance of the band. But the smoke started getting to me and I got a headache. No good. Ah well. Still good times hanging out with friends and seeing old ones. - Not much else is new. Other than upcoming shows. Paulson. (Twice). Bloc Party! Then Peachcake. (Twice). I'm excited for all those shows. - Got a bunch of new and old music. Belle & Sebastian. Broken Social Scene. Dashboard Confessional. As Tall As Lions. ActionReaction. Gym Class Heroes. Bright Eyes. Thursday "Full Collapse". Death From Above 1979. The Flaming Lips. Matt Pond PA. mewithoutYou. The Shins. I have alot of listening ahead of me. - That's basically it for now. Until next time. Peace. Mike. |

| | Umbrellas Illuminaire | ] | So right now I'm shirtless and have my jeans rolled up. I know you know you think it's hot. Well truth is, it is rather warm here today. Too warm for clothes. So yeah. Basically. Ummmm. I went to Warped Tour in Pomona last week. It was decent. Saw Sherwood. (Best band of the day) Gym Class Heroes. Hellogoodbye. Hit The Lights. Motion City Soundtrack. Thursday. Saves The Day. Meg & Dia. The Academy Is. Plain White T's. And a little bit of NOFX. It was hot. And too much walking, I must say. At least I didn't have to pay $7 for parking cause the campsite was right across the street. And I walked to Warped Tour. It was alright. The walking part, that is. I saw a good amount of friends. All and all, Warped tour was ok. Saw my Dad a bunch of times while I was up North. I just wish this whole thing would just be done and over with. I want him to come home so we can hang out again. Now they're saying that he won't be fully recovered until around October. Dammit! I want it to be over with already. :( Peachcake is in LA finishing up songs for the EP coming out this Fall. I wanted to hang out with them while I was up there. But the producers said it wasn't a good idea for me to hang out in the studio with them. Ah well. One of the producers lives down here. So maybe they'll come down here before they leave the state. We'll see. Got some new music. The Graduate Horror Show. Absolutely steller. Andrew W.K. I Get Wet. Party hard! The Hush Sound Like Vines. Eh. Park Building A Better _______. Decent. Umbrellas Illuminaire. Currently listening to right now. That's about it for now. Just mainly been working and hanging out. Till next time. Mike. |

| | Mute Math "Obsolete" | ] | So, the last couple days have been alright. Saturday night, I met up with Brianna from work at the beach. We chatted and walked around the entire beach. It was good getting to know her more. And good exercise. Sunday. Worked during the day. 100+ degrees. Ouch! The fan at Zoowerks was basically blowing hot air. It was no bueno. After work, I met up with Ilene, Mike and Sam. They were at this hardcore fest at Epicentre. I hung out with them while they ate Carls Jr. It was cool to see them again. Last time I saw them was at the beginning of the month. Went and got In-N-Out burger and animal style fries. Delicious. Went and saw Damiera and Cordova. Cordova was from PA. So we chatted about PA and everything about it. Good guys. Damiera was really good. Dave the singer didn't sing much because he had a cold. Plus when he did sing, I could barely hear him through the system. But the musicianship was absolutely fantastic. Those guys are wicked talented. Not a bad show. Today. A cleaning lady came to our house. So I left the house for a couple hours to get out of their way. Went and saw Nacho Libre. It was alright. I probably should've waited to rent it. Ah well. It was with a free pass. So it's alright. After that, went down to the pier and just relaxed. I must say that "Brothels On A Hotel Bed" by Death Cab is a great song to listen to while sitting at the beach and reflecting on life and whatnot. It was a very relaxing time. Came home. Had a steak dinner with Mom. We then went grocery shopping. Always good times. And now here I am. Just thought I'd do a quickie. Talk to you later. Mike. |

I do. ...have a job that doesn't require driving 50 miles everytime I go to work. I love working at the Animal Park right now, but the whole distance thing sure does suck. ...figure out what I wanna do with myself in the future. ...eventually get out on my own and have my own place, but I feel scared at what the future will bring. ...have friends that live locally. I love the friends I have now, but I would to hang out with friends and not have to drive 30-50 miles to see them. ...see my old friends from back East. ...travel all around the country. Hell, why not the rest of the world? ...see her. ...be with her. ...stare at her pretty brown eyes while we lay in bed. ...be happy.
Sorry for the depressing sounding rant. Just feeling a little lonely right about now. |

| | Anathallo - Floating World | ] | I went up to City Of Hope to see my dad in the hospital and to see my Aunt Joyce one last time before she flew out on Thursday. We had a good dinner at the Old Spagetti Factory. Their strawberry lemonade and garlic cheese beard is crazy delicious. As well as the spagetti. Said goodbye to Aunt Joyce. It was great seeing her again. I stayed at the camper we've rented for a month in Pomona. I chatted with Ashley for about 5 hours or so. I enjoy our conversations. The next day, I went back to the hospital to keep my dad company for the day. I gave him his Father's Day present. It was some DVDs of Red Skalten, The Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello. He loved them. It was good to be there for dad when he needs me more than ever. I'm gonna go up there tomorrow and keep him company. I worked Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was crazy hot. Plus it was the start of Summer hours. So that means for hours for me until I have to be with me for 4 days at a time. But yeah, more hours will be good. Next week is Steel Train and if I get my shift switched at work, Damiera. I'm very excited to see those bands. Espcially Steel Train. Those guys are too good. Damiera will be good too. I hear great things about them from various sources. Their record is so incredible. Can't wait to see them. But yeah, just thought I'd do a little LJ for the fudge of it. Talk to you soon. Mike. |

| | The sound of her voice on the other end. | ] | So, it's been a while since I've actually wrote on here. So I guess I'll give you a quick little rundown of what I've been up to the last 3 months or so.
MARCH. My job at Cirque du Soleil ended in the beginning of the month. Hung out with Peachcake for 10 days in various states. Rode and lived in a van for a week straight. Got a little taste of life on the road. So far, I love it. Expierenced the phenomenom known as SXSW. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Driving. Broke up with Kelly. Lame. Life goes on. Highlight shows of March: Steel Train @ SXSW. Limbeck @ SXSW. All of Peachcake shows @ SXSW. Satisfaction @ Epicentre. Motion City Soundtrack @ SOMA.
APRIL. I was suppose to go on tour for a month with Peachcake. Some last minute things happened and I couldn't go. Bummer. They said they'd take me out on tours in the future. So, that's good. Began job searching. Not much luck. Did a job as an extra on the set of Veronica Mars. It was long and boring. 16 HOURS! Hung out with June for 3 days. I forgot how great the Format was. And I discovered how amazing Anathallo was. Good times. Had a dance party with Limbeck and other friends. That was really good. Not much else happened in April. Highlight shows of April: The Format/June/Anathallo in Pomona and LA. Limbeck @ OCMA and Chain Reaction. Peachcake in San Diego. Angels & Airwaves @ Chain Reaction.
MAY. FINALLY got a job. I sell tickets at various places in the Wild Animal Park. I get to see animals (ducks, mainly) everyday. It's great. I've met some good people there too. I like it. Started talking to a really great girl. Too bad she lives 3000 miles away. Other than that, not much happened in May. Not many shows either. Highlight shows of May: Peachcake Dance Party in Temecula. The Audition @ Chain Reaction. MC Lars @ SOMA.
JUNE. Hung out with my good friends in June and The Junior Varsity. TJV played "Do You Mind?" twice for me. So good. After those shows, I saw what was probably one of the best shows I've seen in a long, long time. The line-up was... Sherwood. House Of Fools. Paulson. And Get Back Loretta. I danced and had a great time watching all of those bands. So much fun. Definetly in my Top 5 favorite shows ever. My dad was admitted into the hospital this month to undergo his treatment for luekemia. My aunts Joyce and Nancy flew in from Pennsylania and Florida to see him before he went in. It was really great seeing them again. I hadn't seen my aunt Nancy for about 3 years or so. She looks so much like my grandma now. It's cool though. It's gonna be a long road till my dad is full recovered and everything. I'm more than confident that he's gonna be alright in the end. The more and more I talk to a certain someone, The more and more I want that certain someone to be here with me. This whole distance thing sure does suck. At least we have something to look forward to in the future. But yeah, basically. The Steel Train Band is coming in 2 weeks. I'm super stoked. It's gonna be good times as always. Maybe another BBQ like last year. We'll see. I get see Damiera on the 25h in San Diego. I'm excited to see them because they're incredible. Can't wait to see them. So yeah. This is the return of the LJ by Mike. Expect more in the future. Until then, take care and love each other. Mike. |

| Update from the Road: 3/10 - 3/13 |
[Mar. 13th, 2006|10:30 am] |
Hello everyone,
I just thought I'd update everyone on what's going on right now. After the last couple of attempts to type this up, I finally get a chance to do this. Here's what went down over the time period of the last couple of days.
FRIDAY 3/10: I started my drive to Arizona at about 11:30am. My original intentions were to drive to San Diego and take the 8, but my mom checked the weather forecast for the area around the 8 and she said that there were gonna be snow blizzards and 3 to 4 inches of snow falling. So, I got an alternate route.
I drove through alot of towns in Riverside County. Mainly the Temecula, Hemet area. Got up to the 10 and started the long drive. I drove through Indio where they hold the Coachella Music Festival every year. It was cool to see that. It was really cool driving by yourself and seeing the open road and parts of America you rarely get to see. The skies and everything were just unbelieveably awesome. I took a bunch of pictures so I might do a picture blog on here at the end of my trip.
Stopped at the Flying J and got gas and some Wendy's before the Arizona border. The sky and clouds were pretty awesome there too.
I got into Phoenix at about 6:30 and headed over to the Brickhouse where Peachcake was playing. I helped them sell merch for their show. They played with Polysics (from Japan) and Los Abandoned. It was a pretty good turnout. I'd say probably about 70 to 80 kids. Peachcake put on a pretty good set. Alot of kids were getting into it. Didn't really watch of Los Abandoned's set. I talked with them afterwards. They were pretty cool people. Polysics was something else. They were kinda like Devo but full on rock and punk like. They were good the first half hour, but they started get boring after a while. I think they played for about an hour and fifteen minutes. I think that was way too long. But then again, they're from Japan and I guess they wanna get the most out of each city. Ah well.
After the show, we all went back to the Peachcake house in Tempe and hung out. I met Jesse's cat, Sebastian. He was one of the coolest cats I'd ever seen. Seeing and playing with him made me miss my cat, Simba. I'll be back soon enough to see him. We watched Waiting for a little bit. Funny flick. We talked alot about music and their new record. I can't wait to hear it. Had alot of Domino's. It was tasty. Went to bed around 2:30 or so.
SATURDAY 3/11: Woke up and showered around 11:30. We started packing and getting everything ready for the next week of shows. We had a show in Tucson and we were suppose to be there around 2, but we didn't leave the house until 2:30 or so.
We got to the venue at around 4:15 or so. The show was at Club Congress. It was a venue/bar/hotel. I had heard stories from beforehand that this place had some haunted room or that the whole hotel itself was haunted. We walked around the hotel a little bit. The place had really cool artwork all around the place. We took pictures all over the hotel in hope to find ghosts in the picutres. No luck. We went upstairs and there was an entrance to the rooftop and we heard a squaking sound coming through the door. Me and John walked back down, but Jake stayed up there. Jake all of a sudden comes running down the stairs saying he heard some say "Please help me!" We were kinda freaked out about it, but we forgot abouit it. We back up there later and we found out that it was just a storage room above the hotel and that it was most likely someone in one of the rooms nearby. It was still creepy.
We started setting up for the show. Peachcake was suppose to go at 6:30, but something happened with their equipment or one of the cables and start 30 minutes late and only played 20 minutes. There wasn't many kids there. Probably 25 tops. We packed up everything after Los Abandoned played.
We were really hungry, so we went to this pizza place a few minutes from the venue. I think it was called Brooklyn Pizza, but it was pretty good for the most part. They had garlic knots, which I didn't have in forever. They were pretty good.
After we ate, we started our long, long drive to Dallas. We drove for about 5 hours or so until we stopped in El Paso and got a hotel. We went to bed at 5 in the morning.
SUNDAY 3/12: We woke and showered and checked out of the hotel at around Noon or so. Jake's eye had been bothering him the last couple of days. So, we went to a nearby hospital and had him get checked out. We were there for about 3 and a half hours. A band that Peachcake played with before called The Kurk stopped by the hospital and hung out with us. There were a couple little boys there waiting on their sick sister and we gave them free cds and autographed them.
Jake got out of the doctors around 4:30 and we all were straving. We all went to this Mexican restraunt called Barrigo. It was pretty cool. The menus were wood pizza plates. I got the chicken enchiladas. They were decent. The refried beans were amazing.
Afterwards, we said goodbye to The Kurk and started our long drive to Dallas at around 6:30. We made many various gas station stops and whatnot. We continued to drive throughout the night.
MONDAY 3/13: We made it into to Dallas at about 6 in the morning. We had drove for about 11 or 12 hours. We were happy we made it though. We started looking for a hotel and we thought we saw the JFK assassination memorial, but we were wrong. It was apparently a tree of hope or something. The setting and everything looked like the JFK memorial with the book depository across the street from the memorial, but it wasn't the real deal.
We stopped at a gas station and asked if there were any hotels around the area and multiple crack addicts talked to us. Before we left the gas station, Stefan noticed that there were a bunch of birds sitting on the same telephone wire. There was probably about 30 birds on the wire. As soon as we were pulling out of the gas station, we saw this huge flash of light come from behind us. Apparently, the telephone pole exploded and barbequed a bunch of the birds. It was absolutely insane.
We started looking for hotels all around the area. We found one hotel that $19 per couple and the place looked like one of those abandoned hotels you see in scary movies or like in that movie "Identity" where 10 people all of a sudden start dying. It looked really bad.
We found a Hampton Inn in Downtown Dallas. $100 for today and tomorrow morning, but we get a free continental breakfast, which I might add was fucking amazing!, and free wireless internet. That's how I'm typing this as we speak.
So, the current status is that we're in Dallas, TX, were playing a show tonight at 6, everyone is sleeping, I'm on the internet and I need to get some sleep before the show. If we get another hotel with wireless internet in Austin, you'll probably be seeing more of these in the next couple of days. So until then, I hope you enjoyed my update, if you made it that far, and you'll hear more about soon enough. Talk to everyone soon. Love you and miss you!
Mike. |

| So I guess I'll update this thing. |
[Oct. 15th, 2005|11:58 pm] |
So It's been a while since I've done this whole shindig and not a whole lot has happened.
I haven't been to a show in almost 2 weeks. But the next 4 weeks will be quite eventful. 13 SHOWS! 2 of them are STEEL TRAIN! I'm excited. Found out that My Getaway will be recording from now to the Spring next year. And possible U.S. tour in March. So that's got me excited. If they do a show in December, I'll try to fly out there and catch it and hang with them. Hung out with Janelle in Temecula. We hung out at Madlins for a little bit. Went to the local movie theatre and saw Wedding Crashers. It was my 5th or so time seeing it, I believe. Janelle's first. She liked it. Good times. Saw Waiting with Kyla. Hilarious. Other than that, I've been working and hanging out and playing online games and burning cds onto my iPOD. Exciting, eh? Well, there will probably be lots of updates in the future about my next 4 weeks. Until then.....
Mike.
PS. Look at my calendar on Myspace and see what shows I'm going to. Let me know if you're gonna be at any of them. Later alligator. |
